Overview
From the wood-carved sanctuaries of Kandy's ancient temples to the untouched shores of Passikudah and Trincomalee, Coastal Heritage Trail traces a lesser-travelled path across Sri Lanka — one where centuries-old heritage gives way to the quiet rhythm of the east coast beaches.
Experience Sri Lanka at a relaxed pace, moving between ancient temples and sea breeze — staying in character-rich hotels and discovering an island whose coasts and kingdoms rarely appear in the same story. More than a highlights tour, Coastal Heritage Trail is Sri Lanka told from its ancient hills down to its eastern tide.

Passikudah · Night 2 of 2
A Day on Passikudah's Shallow Blue Bay
A day at leisure on one of Sri Lanka's most tranquil beaches. Passikudah's wide, crescent-shaped bay is sheltered by an offshore reef, keeping the water calm and remarkably shallow — in places you can wade several hundred metres out and still stand waist-deep in warm, turquoise water. Framed by swaying palms and pale golden sand, it's a rare stretch of coastline where you can simply drift, swim, or watch the horizon change colour at sunset. Spend the day however you please — swim, relax by the shore, or simply enjoy the unhurried pace of the east coast.
Meals: Breakfast, Dinner · Overnight: Passikudah
Trincomalee · Night 1 of 2
Along the Coast to Trincomalee
Leaving Passikudah behind, follow a scenic coastal route north toward Trincomalee. The road hugs the shoreline for much of the journey, passing through fishing villages where brightly painted boats line the sand, past shimmering lagoons and swaying coconut groves. Watch island life unfold at an unhurried pace — fishermen mending nets, children playing by the water's edge. Arrive in Trincomalee with time to relax on its shores as evening falls.

Trincomalee · Night 2 of 2
Trincomalee at Your Own Pace
Trincomalee is home to one of the world's finest natural harbours, its calm turquoise waters shaped by centuries of maritime history. Take a boat excursion to Pigeon Island National Park, where a local specialist guides you to the reef's best spots among the turquoise shallows that shelter over 100 species of coral, shoals of tropical fish, blacktip reef sharks and gliding turtles. The remainder of the day is yours — a swim, a nap in the shade, or simply watching the tide roll in.
